Error installing Steam in Windows Vista.

Posted in Uncategorized by Greg Mackay on June 30, 2009

I purchased Valves new game Portal the other day. Unfortunately while installing Steam (required to run Valve games) I got the following error: "steam.exe (main exception) unable to load library steam.dll". I immediately turned to Google for help. After a several searches and reinstall attempts I finally figured out that it was a problem with my DSL router. The routers firewall was blocking Steam. So if your getting this error try turning off your routers firewall or forwarding ports on your router.

So far this is turning out to be a great game. Its a welcome change from first person shooters I usually play. I don’t understand why Valve forces an install of steam though. What if you want to play one of their games but don’t have an Internet connection?
